Ladybug Cake

This was an exciting cake to make because it was for our very own tiny little thing! Our baby turned one last week and we celebrated with a ladybug party!

Bryan did about 99% of this cake and spent a lot of time thinking about what he wanted to do. He really wanted to try doing some fondant lattice work but when we googled the internet for ideas we couldn't find any. I don't know if it hasn't been done before or we just didn't search very well but here it is ladies and gentleman....*drumroll please*....the very first fondant lattice cake ; )

We didn't get any pictures but the inside was red and black too!

Our lil lady tore into the top tier...too cute.

Tangled Cake

This year for Jolie's birthday her mom requested a Tangled cake. The tower was made of fruity pebbles (because they're gluten free!) and the landscape was chocolate gluten free cake. Yummy and tons of fun! Happy 3rd birthday Jolie!

Cake Boss

This pink & zebra striped cake is a pretty darn cute and very popular design. If you've ever watched TLC's Cake Boss you may recognize it as the cake Buddy made for his niece's 13th birthday. I've seen lots of different versions of this cute n' sassy design so I was pretty excited to create one of my own when Amber sent me the picture straight off of the episode for her sister-in-law Tiffany's birthday.
Our favorite triple chocolate cake covered in fondant stripes, balls, bow, and stars-Happy Birthday to Tiffany!

Desiree's Grandma

I've never met Desiree's grandma, but Desiree shared her grandmother's favorite colors (purple & green) with me and requested chocolate for her birthday cake. Desi also couldn't resist tying in a few polka dots for a personal touch from her polka-dot loving granddaughter. What we came up with was a great little yummy chocolate number celebrating the life of a great woman and her sweet granddaughter wishing her a happy birthday via cake!

Jolie and her Minnie Mouse Cake!

Cute Jolie LOVED her Minnie Mouse birthday cake! Her mom threw her a pretty awesome Disney club house themed birthday party-lucky girl! Because Melissa and Jolie are both allergic to wheat we made a top layer of gluten free chocolate cake complete with gluten free icing. It was our first time baking anything gluten free but it turned out pretty well! The bottom layer was a spice cake with cream cheese frosting filling-deelish! Heres what Jolie's mom had to say about it:

Hi! Thank you SOOO much for the cake, Katie! It was perfect and beautiful and I loved it! The gluten free was good and we didn't get sick! Thank you for taking the time to make it gluten free!

I was going thru some of Jolie's birthday pictures and these pictures stood out to me! I LOVE it!

After you left, she was obsessed with her cake! She wouldn't stop looking at it and saying MY MOUSE CAKE!!! over and over again. Anyways this picture just says it all with one look!

After I snapped this picture and walked away, I came back later to find her with her finger in the frosting dots all around the bottom of the cake. She was eating them all!!! She couldn't wait to eat her cake!

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us Melissa! & Happy 2nd birthday Jolie!

January Birthdays!

Bryan comes from a family of SEVEN children, and five of them share January birthdays. Our family usually gets together to celebrate these birthdays in one big celebration. This year Bryan and I were asked to make a birthday cake for the birthday siblings. We brainstormed a few ideas before we decided on making each sibling their very own personally themed birthday cake. Heres what we came up with:
*note: each of these cakes were made rather quickly! Pardon all the mistakes and the unprofessional nature of the background items : ) lol

David is turning 21 this month and works at...you guessed it Quick Trip! (The greatest gas station IN the world I might add. F'real chocolate shakes are aaaawesome!) David is more than your average QT employee. He is obsessed with the company. He's constantly spouting off little known Quick Trip Facts (about founders and statistics and such) and asking us to play 'quickopoly' which you guessed it again, is QT's version of Monopoly. The boy drives a little red car with a license plate that brags: QTGUY. Happy Birthday David!

When Amber came to my bridal shower she got to meet my sister for the first time. Introducing herself she said, 'Hi I'm Amber, I'm Bryan's sister'. My sister said nice to meet you and all that jazz to which Amber replied, 'No, you don't get it. I'm the ONLY sister, and that makes me special.' That story pretty much sums up Amber, but the truth is she is pretty special. Super friendly, beautiful and talented at almost everything, the woman is incredible! Not to mention she was the only girl with 6, yes SIX, brothers. Happy Birthday Amber! (and her daughter Reagan!)
Kenny loves the white stripes and the cardinals. We tried to tie both of these ideas into this cake and I thought it turned out pretty well. Bryan did a super awesome job with the cardinals hat...awesome detailing huh? Bry also tried piping for the very first time (thats usually my job) with that white line along the edge of the brim. anyway, we love you Kenny (whose the second oldest)-Happy Birthday!

Bryceon is 3rd and loves the Simpsons. He also loves the cardinals but one cardinals hat per cake, ya know? Bryceon hosted this years birthday party at his brand new house and fed us all super yummy chili...I'd say Bryceon's off to a great start for this year. Happy Birthday Bryceon! p.s. awesome donut huh?? Thats all fondant baby.
Daryl is oldest and spends a lot of his time either playing or talking about playing chess : ) this passion somehow transferred from oldest brother to 4th brother cause my hubby loves to play as well. (It took me a while but I even beat him once!) This cake is in honor of the brilliant and competitive Daryl-Happy Birthday Broth-a!
check out that leaning tower of bishop pawn. Thats what happens when you don't let fonant dry all the way before you stand it up!

My 23rd Birthday

I turned 23 this month (yikes!) and had the privilege of celebrating my birthday with all of my very best friends in Utah. A cookout including my favorite food (hot dogs), a reunion with good friends, and one yummy birthday cake made my 23rd birthday (am I really that old?!) a pretty great one.

Melissa and I shared our joint birthdays by 'blowing out' sparklers instead of candles. Maybe that means we'll get bigger wishes too...

Winnie The Pooh 1st Birthday Cake!

It was pretty obvious why Emily and Tanner requested a Winnie The Pooh cake for Kendal's first birthday when we went to make our delivery. Kendal loves Pooh! She was super cute in her Pooh outfit with her giant Pooh doll all dressed up for her big day! I grew up with Emily and I can't believe she's been a mom for a whole year! So happy 1st birthday Kendal, and happy one year of mommyhood to Emily!
